• All students from Burundi, DRC, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sudan and Tanzania. Non-Rwandan nationals with refugee status in Rwanda and from all African countries will be considered.
• All international students who did not complete an examination offered by the Rwandan National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA)/REB/WDA should apply for NESA equivalency review through Irembo.gov.rw.
• Only candidates who completed high school in 2023 and 2024 can apply. Also, those who applied last year and didn’t get in can re-apply.
• Students must have done a combination including CHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY in High school with at least an A score in these subjects.
• National exam scores with an overall aggregate score of at least 50 with two principal passes in Biology and Chemistry from the following subject combinations, or equivalent:

• UGHE also accepts applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in any of these specialities for this intake: Nursing, Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, Radiography, Anesthesia, or other fields closely related to health care and meet the eligibility criteria outlined above. In addition to meeting the criteria outlined above, candidates falling under this category must also have demonstrated work experience in health sciences or global health capacity in Burundi, DRC, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Liberia, Lesotho, Malawi and Sierra Leone.
Note that, All applicants with an undergraduate degree should apply and submit their Equivalency certificates for their A’level or high school leaving certificates which have at least grade ”C” in any A-level subject combinations that includes Biology and Chemistry principal subjects.

• Applicants whose first language is not English or who did not go through an education system with English as a medium of instruction will be required to provide evidence from a recognized English language training institution that they have sufficient command of English language to cope with the program.

WHAT IS THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS?
Applications are submitted online. Each applicant is asked to submit their National Exams results. In addition to demographic information, applicants are required to submit their PERSONAL STATEMENT (Essay) : After the Admissions Committee reviews all applications, select candidates are invited to sit for an online ENTRANCE EXAMINATION, and a subset of those candidates are invited for ADMISSIONS INTERVIEWS.

AFRICAN LEADERSHIP UNIVERSITY (ALU) is a network of tertiary institutions operating in Mauritius and Rwanda, offering bachelor's degree programs. ALU's inaugural campus, known as the African Leadership College, was established in September 2015 in Mauritius. This university is affiliated with Glasgow Caledonian University for Mauritius.

ALU has one Campus in Rwanda located in Bumbogo- Kigali Innovation City, Next to Azam.

ALU has three intakes: JANUARY INTAKE, MAY INTAKE, and SEPTEMBER INTAKE. One of their objectives is to make education accessible to potential future leaders across the continent by reducing the barriers between prospective students and their post-secondary education.

In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and other external partners , ALU is proud to offer scholarships that make ALU education available to deserving individuals across the African continent. These scholarships are full-ride scholarships awarded to students who demonstrate both financial need and great potential in using the scholarship opportunity as a valuable tool in making a meaningful impact in their community.

ALU FULL SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS:

ALU SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Scholarships offered at ALU are full-ride scholarships covering full tuition and additional financial support throughout the scholars’ journey at ALU (terms and conditions may vary depending on the scholarship contract/ partnering donor).

1. Applicants must be otherwise unable to afford ALU tuition with any other form of aid. Individuals must demonstrate financial need and socio-economic disadvantage, which acceptable supporting documents can verify.

2. Aged 29 and below. Individuals meeting the following descriptions are especially encouraged to apply;

Our aid program follows this major principle:

All ALU-sponsored aid is based primarily on demonstrated financial need but is subject to meeting all other eligibility requirements and availability.

Students with the greatest demonstrated need will receive the most aid should they meet the basic eligibility requirements for the type of aid they are applying for.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

• Your national ID
• Your high school reports (from S4 to S6)
• Your high school Diploma or notarized Result slip
• Bank or Momo statement for 3 recent months (Historic) from your parents or your guardians
• Confirming letter or a formal letter from the employer of your Parent or the person whose Statement is provided.
• Annual high school tuition fees document (it shows the amount of school fees you used to pay at former high school)
• Sponsorship document (from the organization or a benefactor who used to pay for your school fees if any)
• Death certificate if any parent died.

Most importantly, two essays have to be written if you are applying for a Scholarship and the topics to be written about are:

1. Please provide an explanation of your unique financial circumstances and why you need financial assistance from ALU.
2. Are there any non-financial circumstances or challenges you're currently facing that we may need to be aware of?

Note that on the last step of the Application, there is an ALU FIT CHALLENGE of Mathematics ( Logic) and English questions which must be done very well for your Application to stand out from others.
