Applications are now open for the prestigious Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University, Canada. This fully funded master's scholarship is designed for talented African students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a strong commitment to creating positive change in their communities. The scholarship is implemented through a partnership between the Mastercard Foundation and McGill University, one of Canada's leading research-intensive universities. From 2024 to 2034, the program will support outstanding students from across Africa pursuing master's degrees in fields related to nutrition, public health, public policy, and sustainable agriculture. 

 

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University is a comprehensive scholarship that covers all major expenses associated with studying in Canada, including:

 

·       Full international student tuition fees

·       On-campus accommodation

·       Monthly living stipend

·       Academic tools and learning resources

·       Pre-arrival support and immigration assistance

·       Comprehensive support services throughout the study period

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

 

·       Be academically admissible to an eligible McGill University graduate program.

·       Have never registered for or completed a master's degree.

·       Be a citizen and resident of an African country.

·       Possess a valid passport and be eligible to obtain a Canadian study permit.

·       Demonstrate outstanding leadership, community engagement, and service.

·       Show a strong commitment to giving back to their home community.

·       Demonstrate financial need and educational barriers resulting from limited financial resources.

·       Be 35 years old or younger at the time of application.

·       Hold a bachelor's degree (or equivalent recognized by McGill University) in a field related to the chosen graduate program.

 

Applicants who possess dual citizenship, refugee status, permanent residency, or similar immigration status in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, or the European Union are not eligible. JOIN OUR Coaching class for ALU ENGLISH TEST

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

During the application and pre-screening process, applicants may be required to provide:

 

·       Valid passport

·       Bachelor's degree certificate or proof of graduation

·       Academic transcripts

·       Curriculum Vitae (CV)

·       Personal statements and motivation essays

·       Evidence of leadership and community service activities

·       Additional supporting documents requested by the scholarship team

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Interested candidates must follow the official application process below:

 

Step 1: Verify Eligibility

Open the scholarship link at the bottom and review all scholarship eligibility requirements before applying.

 

Step 2: Attend a Mandatory Information Session

Applicants must register for and attend a virtual information session organized by the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at McGill University. Attendance is mandatory.

Only eligible applicants who attend an information session will receive access to the scholarship application form.

 

Step 3: Submit the Scholarship Application

Complete and submit the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Application Form.

 

Step 4: Pre-Screening Process

Applications undergo a two-stage pre-screening process. Applicants who meet the initial requirements will be invited to submit additional documentation.

 

Step 5: Receive Fee Waiver

Successful pre-screened applicants will receive:

 

·       A McGill University application fee waiver

·       Instructions for submitting a formal graduate admission application

Applicants must not apply directly to McGill University before receiving the fee waiver.

 

Step 6: Apply to McGill University

Eligible candidates submit their admission applications following the instructions provided by the scholarship team.

 

Step 7: Admission and Scholarship Decision

Admission decisions are issued between February and March, while scholarship decisions are typically communicated in late March or early April.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

·       The scholarship is available only for master's degree studies.

·       Applicants must first apply through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program before applying to McGill University.

·       Contacting supervisors directly is not permitted for thesis-based programs during the initial application stage.

·       Scholarship recipients receive conditional admission to McGill University.

·       If a candidate is admitted to McGill University but not selected for the scholarship, the conditional admission offer will be withdrawn.

The last day for attending Mandatory Information Sessions is July 15, 2026
