Rwandan students are invited to apply for fully funded bilateral cooperation scholarships offered by the People’s Republic of China for the 2026/2027 academic year. These prestigious opportunities support eligible students to pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs in top Chinese universities beginning in September 2026. The scholarship aims to build Rwanda’s human capital, especially in science-related fields, by providing world-class education and international exposure.

The scholarships are administered by the Higher Education Council (HEC), the national authority responsible for managing foreign study opportunities on behalf of the Government of Rwanda. HEC oversees the application process, verifies eligibility, ensures transparency in candidate selection, and provides official nomination to China Scholarship Council (CSC).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
• Must be a Rwandan citizen with a valid National ID or passport.
• Applicants must have graduated from science-related fields.
• Minimum academic requirements:
I. Bachelor’s Applicants: At least 80% in the 2025 Senior Six National Examinations (or equivalent for foreign qualifications).
II. Master’s Applicants: Bachelor’s degree with Second Class Upper Division or equivalent.
III. PhD Applicants: Master’s degree with a good pass.
• Employer recommendation letter is an added advantage (for Master’s & PhD).
• Must complete online application via CSC portal and HEC MIS.

Applicants may apply for any science-related field offered under the Chinese Government Scholarship scheme, including but not limited to:
• Engineering & Technology
• Medicine & Health Sciences
• Natural Sciences
• Agriculture & Environmental Sciences
• Computer Science & ICT

• Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and related fields

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
All applicants must submit the following documents:
• Application letter addressed to the Director General of HEC.
• National ID or valid passport.
• Curriculum Vitae (CV).
• Senior Six results slip (for Bachelor’s applicants).
• Original-notified certificates and transcripts (for postgraduate applicants).
• Completed Chinese Government Scholarship (CGSIS) Application Form.
• Completed Foreigners Medical Physical Examination Form.
• Employer recommendation (optional but advantageous for Master’s & PhD).

2. CSC Online Application (CGSIS)
Follow these steps:
1. Visit  here  → “Scholarship Application for Students”.
2. Create an account and log in.
3. Fill in all Personal Details.
4. Select Program Category: Type A.
5. Enter Agency Number: 6461.
6. Complete the “Language Proficiency & Study Plan” section.
7. Upload all supporting documents and Submit the application.
8. Print the completed application form.
9. Submit according to HEC requirements.

Important Notes:
• Incorrect Agency Number will disqualify your application.
• Use Firefox or Internet Explorer (IE 11) for best performance.
• Fill all forms in English or Chinese only.
• Applicants may withdraw and edit only before processing begins.
