The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Oxford offers an exceptional opportunity for young African graduates to pursue one-year, full-time master’s programs at one of the world’s leading universities. This program aims to empower talented, service-oriented students from across Africa by providing them with access to a world-class education, leadership training, and a global network of professionals dedicated to creating positive change across the continent.

This initiative is implemented in partnership with the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx), a platform that fosters equitable and sustainable collaboration between Oxford University and African institutions. Together, AfOx and the MasterCard Foundation are committed to developing transformative leaders equipped to tackle Africa’s most pressing challenges—ranging from public health and climate change to inclusive economic growth and youth empowerment. SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS
• Full coverage of tuition and living expenses for the entire duration of the program.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To qualify for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Oxford, applicants must:
• Hold an offer for a full-time, one-year taught master’s course at Oxford.
• Have applied via the graduate admissions portal by the relevant December/January deadline for their course.
• Be citizens and residents of an African country or hold refugee status within the continent.
• Not have completed a graduate degree prior to application.
• Demonstrate a record of leadership, community service, and social impact.
• Align with AfOx core values: Collegiality, Empathy, Commitment, Transparency, and Inclusivity.
• Show how their professional experience or academic goals will contribute to solving Africa’s key challenges, such as climate change, pandemics, and unemployment.


AVAILABLE PROGRAMS
All one-year taught master’s programs offered at the University of Oxford are eligible, provided the applicant meets the specific entry and funding deadlines.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
• Academic transcripts and degree certificates.
• Curriculum Vitae (CV).
• Statement of purpose or personal statement.
• Two or more recommendation letters.
• Proof of English language proficiency (if required by the program).

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
1. Apply for graduate admission at the University of Oxford through the official Graduate Admissions Portal before the course deadline.
2. Apply for mentorship support through the African Society at Oxford (AfriSoc) Mentorship Programme before 29th September 2025.
3. If eligible, applicants will receive an email invitation to complete the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program Application Form.
4. Attend an online interview via Zoom, if shortlisted.
5. Await the final selection and scholarship confirmation.
