Administered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, this scholarship covers all tuition fees, monthly stipend, and travel costs, making it one of the most generous academic awards globally. No IELTS or TOEFL is required to apply.

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS :
The Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship 2025–26 is a fully funded scholarship program that covers all the costs associated with studying in Japan. Selected students pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree will receive the following benefits:
• Monthly Living Allowance: A generous stipend is provided each month to cover your daily living expenses throughout your study period.
• Full Tuition Coverage: All academic tuition fees will be completely waived, funded directly by the Japanese Government.
• Round-Trip Airfare: The scholarship includes free international air tickets—one for your arrival in Japan and another upon completion of your studies to return home.
• Free Accommodation: The cost of housing is fully covered. Scholars will either stay in university-provided residences or receive support to arrange accommodation.
• Relocation and Travel Support: Additional allowances may be provided to assist with settling in and adjusting to life in Japan.
To be considered for the Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan. Use the link at the bottom to check whether your country is included.
• Japanese Nationals: Individuals who hold Japanese citizenship are not eligible to apply.
• Age Requirement: Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1988.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
Applicants must prepare and submit the following documents to be considered for the MEXT Scholarship. All documents must be either in English or Japanese (or accompanied by an official translation):
1. Academic Transcripts (Attested Copies)
o Secondary School Certificate & Mark Sheet (e.g., Matriculation / O-Level)
o Higher Secondary School Certificate & Mark Sheet (e.g., Intermediate / A-Level)
o Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree Transcripts (for postgraduate applicants)
2. Certificate of Graduation or Expected Graduation: Officially attested copy of your degree certificate(s) or a Hope Certificate (for those awaiting results by August 2024).
4. Certificate of Enrollment: If you are currently studying, submit a recent certificate of enrollment from your current institution.
5. Recommendation Letter: A letter of recommendation from a teacher, professor, or academic advisor, addressed to the MEXT Scholarship Committee.
6. Medical Health Certificate: Completed and signed by a licensed physician using the official MEXT health form, confirming you are fit to study abroad.
7. Research Plan or Study Plan: Required for applicants pursuing a Master’s or PhD. It should outline your academic goals, research interest, and methodology.
8. Abstract of Thesis (if applicable): Submit an abstract of your previous research thesis (particularly for research or doctoral applicants).
9. Passport Copy or National ID: A valid copy of your passport (if available) or national identification.
10. Photographs (as per specifications): Recent passport-sized photographs (typically 2–3 copies), attached to the application form.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:

• Choose your country and fill out the form.
Note: For Rwandan citizen, follow the following procedures:
• All applications are submitted online to HEC
• Choose Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship you wish to apply to.( Research (Master's & PhD), Undergraduate or College of Technology Students).
• Document Screening will be in process, and the screening result will be disclosed to the successful candidates in the beginning of June.
• Written Examination: The subjects of written examinations of language proficiency will be Japanese and English.
• The interview will be held at the Embassy.
• Second Screening conducted by MEXT: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) will select the candidates according to the application documents and first screening results.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Duration of the Scholarship in Japan:
• Bachelor’s Degree: 4-5 years
• Master’s Degree: 2-3 years
• Doctoral Degree: 3-4 years.
