The University of Otago in New Zealand is now accepting applications for its 2025–2026 international scholarships. These fully funded opportunities are open to students from all over the world who are interested in pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree by research. SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS
The University of Otago Scholarships 2025–26 for international students offer generous financial aid tailored to the level of study:
For Master’s Students:
• An annual living allowance of NZD $18,204 to support everyday expenses during your studies
• A full waiver of domestic tuition fees (NOTE: student services fees and insurance are not included)
For PhD Candidates:
• An annual stipend of NZD $32,544 to help cover living costs
• A domestic tuition fee exemption for up to 36 months (excluding student services fees and insurance)
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
• Students who are working toward their first Master’s degree.
• International applicants from any country around the world.
• Those enrolled in a research-focused or thesis-based Master’s program.
• PhD candidates who have not previously completed a doctoral degree.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
1. Apply for Admission
First, you must apply for admission to your chosen program at the University of Otago. (Find the application link at the bottom.)
2. Wait for Nomination
After admission, your department will assess your eligibility and may nominate you for the scholarship.
3. Scholarship Invitation
If nominated, you will receive a scholarship invitation via eVision from the Scholarships Office.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
• Start early to gather documents and refine your statement of purpose.
• Tailor your personal statement to match Otago’s values and your chosen program.
• Secure strong recommendation letters from academic or professional referees.
• If applying for a research-based program, write a clear, focused research proposal aligned with current faculty expertise.
